Dr Francis Halsall

Dr Francis Halsall is a lecturer in Visual Culture at National College of Art and Design (NCAD), Dublin and is Co-Director of Master Programs, 'Art in the Contemporary World' He lectures in the history and theory of modern and contemporary art. He’s also visiting research fellow in Art History at University of the Free State, Bloemfontaine, South Africa. His research covers three main areas on which he has published and lectured widely: The history, theory and practice of modern and contemporary art; Philosophical aesthetics and the cultural and historical reception of ideas of "Systems". Francis has lectured and published extensively in all these areas in academic and non-academic contexts. His latest book is Contemporary Art, Systems and the Aesthetics of Dispersion (Routledge, 2023) Graduates from the NCAD Visual Culture programme find work in many fields, including galleries and arts institutions, journalism, and education.

Ola Majekodunmi

Broadcaster, writer and producer Ola Majekodunmi was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Dublin, Ireland. She is a broadcaster, Gaeilgeoir, digital content creator, public speaker, writer, former co-founder of Beyond Representation and Board of Directors member on Foras na Gaeilge, Dublin Film Festival and a member of Galway Film Centre’s National Talent Academy Steering Committee. She first became a radio presenter with Raidió na Life 106.4FM in Summer 2014. She now presents ‘Unheard’ on RTÉ 2XM, highlighting black and Gaelach musicians. She often contributes on other shows such as on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, RTÉ 2FM, RTÉ 2XM, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Foyle, RTÉ Radio 1, as well as on TV on TG4, RTÉ and BBC. In 2018, Ola directed and produced the viral video-documentary ‘What Does “Irishness” Look Like?’ which was screened at the Belfast Feminist Festival, Belfast Film Festival and Rathmullan Film Festival. She recently (2021) directed and produced another bi-lingual video-documentary called ‘Say My Ainm’ in collaboration with Axis Ballymun, that was screened in the Irish Film Institute as part of Black History Month. She graduated from her undergraduate at IADT in BA (hons) English, Media, and Cultural studies in 2018. She did her final year thesis on the ‘Politics of Black Women’s Hair’. She is also a graduate of M.A. in Digital Broadcast Production at the National Film School in IADT since 2019.

Aoife McLysaght

Chair of Evolutionary Genetics, TCD Aoife McLysaght is Chair of Evolutionary Genetics in TCD. She was a member of the international consortium that published the first draft of the Human Genome sequence in 2001; was the first to discover novel human-specific genes, in 2009; identified links between gene duplication patterns and human disease; and has made significant contributions to our understanding of the human genome, as well as the genomes of other animals, plants and viruses. Aoife takes a keen interest in communicating science to the public in an engaging and accessible manner. She has given many talks at public events, including music festivals, science festivals, and Brian Cox and Robin Ince’s Christmas Science shows. She is a frequent contributor to radio discussions including on BBC Radio 4, appeared on live TV, contributed to TV science documentaries, and has been a regular columnist for the Irish Times science page. She jointly wrote and presented the 2018 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, broadcast on the BBC

Stephen Moloney

Communications and Media Officer, Abbey Theatre Stephen Moloney is a communications practitioner with more than eight years’ experience in the arts, culture and heritage, social justice and statutory sectors. He is currently the Communications and Media Officer with the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s national theatre. Stephen has previously worked with organisations including the National Library of Ireland, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Heritage Council, the National College of Art and Design, the Creative Futures Academy, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the EPA. He is a former freelance writer and editor, contributing stories on arts and culture matters and LGBTQIA+ affairs to local and national print publications. Stephen is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin where he studied History of Art and Architecture and Sociology for undergrad, followed by a master’s in Political Science.

Rónán Mac Con Iomaire

Rónán Mac Con Iomaire is Director of Regional, Community & Language Development, and is responsible for micro-enterprise, language planning and community development, among other areas. Previously, he was RTÉ’s Group Head of Irish Language and Leascheannaire (Deputy Head) of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. Rónán has a background in media and entrepreneurship, having spent many years working as an award-winning journalist, as Local Government correspondent for Nuacht RTÉ and TG4, as well as for publications such as the Irish Independent, Evening Herald and The Irish Times. Rónán was awarded New Writer of the Year for his biography of Irish boxer, Seán Mannion, the fastest-selling Irish language book of all time and on which the award-winning feature documentary, Rocky Ros Muc, was based. Rowman & Littlefield published his second book, The Man Who Was Never Knocked Down, in 2018.

Marcella Phelan

National Apprenticeship Programme Co-ordinator, Teagasc Oversight for the development of 5 land-based higher education apprenticeships programmes – Farm Technician (Level 6), Farm Manager (Level 7), Horticulturist (Level 6), Sportsturf Management (Level 6) and Assistant Stud Management (Level 7). Currently co-ordinate and manage land-based higher education apprenticeship programmes in Teagasc. Previously roles in Teagasc includes: National Placement Co-ordinator, Education Officer and Teagasc Advisor roles. Marcella also worked as an Agricultural Environmental Consultant.

Milos Maksimovic is an Engineering Manager at Microsoft Ireland with a relentless passion for learning, innovation and technology. With over a decade experience in the tech industry, last year embraced a new challenge of leading exceptional engineers in building and running world class, highly scalable and resilient services for Microsoft Account that connects all Microsoft consumer apps and services. His path has taken him from the High School in Belgrade, Serbia to University at School of Electrical Engineering at University of Belgrade. His professional career started during university where he joined a student exchange program to have an internship in Aberdeen, Scotland and after that join Microsoft Denmark as a Software Engineer in Test Intern. After graduating from college, he joined Microsoft Ireland. After a few years, he joined the newly formed Identity team in Dublin.

Enda O'Dowd

Enda is a lecturer in the Product Design Department at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and joint course coordinator for the MSc in Medical Device Design. The Medical Device Design course at NCAD is an innovative studio based program which works with industry and medical professionals to design better devices and patient experiences. Enda is an advocate for studio education and applying science and technology in a human led design process. He has a keen interest in sustainability and has integrated sustainability considerations into the teaching of materials and manufacturing at NCAD. Having coordinated modules in Design Thinking for the MBA at the UCD Smurfit School, and on the Sustainable Product Design course at Maynooth University. He is interested in the design of new products, services and business models for the circular economy.

Rónán Ó Muirthile

Rónán Ó Muirthile is the Head of Faculty of Film Art & Creative Technologies at IADT in Dún Laoghaire. The faculty has a student cohort of over 1600 full time and part time students. He is responsible for all aspects of academic delivery, quality assurance, budgeting, administration and strategic development for the faculty. He is an active practitioner. His credits include all genres of TV; high end, award winning documentary films, international formats and some of the best-known and loved Irish prime time programmes. The documentary 'Flann O'Brien: The Lives of Brian' which he wrote & produced was awarded the IFTA for best single documentary in 2007 and 'Connected', a twenty part series he series produced, won the IFTA for best Constructed Reality in 2015

Paulina Pawlukojc

Paulina Pawlukojc is the Group Sustainability Manager at Coillte, responsible for the development and implementation of the group sustainability strategy. Paulina holds a Masters in Forestry and Forestry Engineering from Warsaw University of Life Sciences, with a particular focus on the non-wood functions of forestry; and a Diploma in Business Finance from the Irish Management Institute. Paulina joined Coillte in 2005 and has held various roles across the company including forest operations, supply chain, customer service and the Head of Timber Sales. Paulina is also on the Board of Directors for The Nature Trust - an Irish not-for-profit organisation founded in 2021 with a mission to plant new open-access woodlands and restore natural habitats at scale across Ireland.

Eileen Keleghan

Eileen Keleghan is Head of Communications with the CAO. Eileen has responsibility for the CAO's communications function (including the CAO Handbook, CAO website content and other online resources); stakeholder engagement; event management and media relations. Eileen has a degree in English and Sociological and Political Studies from NUI Galway ( University of Galway); an MA in Public Relations from Dublin Institute of Technology (Technological University Dublin); and a Master of Business degree (research) from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (Atlantic Technological University). Eileen will be delivering a presentation on the CAO application process.

Gabrielle Cummins

Since 2006, Gabrielle Cummins has been CEO & Programme Director Beat 102-103. An honours degree graduate of Media Communications & English from Mary Immaculate, University of Limerick, Gabrielle was part of the original consortium panel that secured the station’s licence in 2002. When Beat launched in 2003, the Tipperary native was Head of News & Sport so this year marks her 20th year with the multi award winning station. Gabrielle contributes to the ongoing success Beat and radio in general, as it strives to grow its consistent market leading role in Ireland’s audio landscape. She was a founding member of Media Central & served as a Director of Independent Broadcasters of Ireland for eight years. In 2019, Gabrielle was honoured by the Irish radio sector with a national IMRO Outstanding Achievement award for her work with “Choose Radio”.

Dr Valerie Mc Taggart is the Head of the Department of Business at ATU (Atlantic Technological University) Sligo College. Valerie has a PhD from DCU, a Masters in Business from John Moores University, Liverpool and a BA Hons in Applied Consumer Studies from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Before joining ATU Sligo as a full-time academic in 2018, Valerie worked in financial services in Ireland and UK for over twenty years in various roles, including project management and people management. John Mulhern

John Mulhern is currently College Principal in the Teagasc College of Horticulture in the National Botanic Gardens. He has worked in Teagasc for nearly 30 years in the education sector. The College is involved in providing courses in Horticulture for up to 300 attendees annually.

Simon O’Connor

Simon O’Connor is the first Director of the Museum of Literature Ireland, a creative collaboration between UCD and the National Library of Ireland. MoLI has won numerous awards since opening in 2019, including the Business to Arts Best Philanthropic Support of the Arts award 2021, Red Dot Best Exhibition Design 2020, IDEA Exhibition Design Gold Award 2021, and was shortlisted for the European Mies Van Der Rohe Architecture Award 2022 and European Museum of the Year Awards 2022. Most recently, MoLI was awarded a prestigious European Commission Europa Nostra Award for Citizen Engagement. A composer by training, Simon was also the founding curator of the Little Museum of Dublin, building that museum from scratch in 2011 and winning numerous awards in the process. Simon was a founding member of rock group The Jimmy Cake, and as a composer, he has studied with internationally renowned composers Donnacha Dennehy and Kevin Volans. He is published on the Ergodos label. Notable works include the acclaimed piano suite "What is Living and What is Dead", and the song cycle collaboration with mezzo-soprano Michelle O'Rourke, "Left Behind - Songs of the 1916 Widows".

Dr Ralf Burbach

Dr Ralf Burbach has been the Head of the Hospitality Management Discipline and Assistant Head of the School of Hospitality Management and Tourism, Technological University Dublin (Ireland) since 2011. He has worked in a number of lecturing and senior management roles in different higher education institutions since 2001. Ralf has thirteen years professional hospitality industry experience and held managerial posts in Germany, the UK and Ireland. Ralf is a member of the Irish Hospitality Institute, Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Vice President at the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE), and Past President of EuroCHRIE its European Federation. Ralf serves on the Hospitality Careers Oversight Group, a body set up by the Irish Government to address skills needs in the sector. His main research interests are in electronic HRM, International Talent Management and vocational training systems. He has given keynote speeches and published a number of book chapters, an edited book, and a number of journal articles in these areas.

Amy Doherty

Amy Doherty is Principal of Ballinteer Community School in Dublin 16. Amy was awarded her BA degree in English and Irish from UCD in 2003. Following the completion of her Masters’ degree in Old and Middle English Literature and Language, she began her educational career joining the teaching team in her former post-primary school, Old Bawn Community School, Tallaght, in 2004. During this year she completed her Higher Diploma in Education in TCD. Her time as an English teacher afforded her the opportunity to extend her love for English to the world of publishing and website design within the school community. Her educational philosophy is based on her belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment that is cultivated by strong relationships and leadership opportunities. Amy completed her postgraduate certificate in 21st Century Teaching and Learning in TCD, in 2016 and is currently engaged in a Professional Coaching Practice and Ethics Certificate specialising in educational leadership coaching. During her time in Old Bawn, Amy devised a Tiered Leadership Programme for students which ignited in her a desire to pursue senior leadership. In 2019 Amy joined the senior leadership team in Ballinteer Community School as Deputy Principal where she later took over as Principal in 2021.

Dr John McGinnity

Guidance counsellor, Institute of Education Dr John McGinnity is a guidance counsellor at the Institute of Education in Dublin. John has worked in education for over 30 years, working with students who are making the transition from second to third level education. John has held a number of positions such as Chair of the Irish Admissions Officers’ Association and represented Maynooth University on the CAO’s Operations Group for a number of years, the group which manages admission to higher education in Ireland. John was a member of the Committee which proposed the current CAO points allocation for Leaving Certificate grades. Prior to working in Maynooth University, John was Admissions Officer in Dublin City University and was Modular Officer during the implementation of modularisation and semesterisation academic structures in DCU. John’s doctorate was on the personal, school, family and location factors which influence second level student choice in college and course decisions. In his work he is very familiar with the qualifications required for all facets of working in education from early childhood, primary, post-primary as well as careers in further and higher education. Most of all he enjoys assisting students reach their full potential. Swimming and walking are his favourite pastimes

Pól Ó Grádaigh

Language Affairs Officer, European Commission Pól has recently been appointed as Language Affairs Officer at the European Commission’s Representation in Ireland, where he is responsible for encouraging Irish people to learn languages and to apply for jobs in the European Union institutions. Prior to moving to Dublin, Pól was an Irish-language translator for the Commission in Brussels. Before working for the Commission, Pól was a foreign correspondent for the German press agency dpa, based first in Cairo from 2012 to 2017 where he covered the turbulent years following the Egyptian revolution, and then in Paris from 2017 to 2020. Pól previously worked in the Irish civil service on a range of issues including the status of Irish in the local government system. Pól has a B.A. in Politics and Arabic from UCD and a Masters of Science in Middle East Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

Brendan Hayes

Lecturer, School of Electronic Engineering, DCU Brendan Hayes graduated from Dublin City University in 2013 with a First Class (H1) Honours BEng in Mechatronic Engineering. He was awarded a Daniel O'Hare Research Scholarship to pursue a PhD in DCU, which he completed in 2016 on a topic within Power Electronics. In 2016, he joined the Advanced Modelling for Power System Analysis and Simulation research group in University College Dublin as a post-doctoral researcher. In 2018, Brendan returned to DCU as an Assistant Professor in the School of Electronic Engineering. He lectures in Control Systems Analysis at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and is involved in managing and teaching on a joint Masters programme with Wuhan University in China. He is currently Programme Chair for the Level 8 BEng in Mechatronic Engineering – his originally primary degree – and is a member of both the Faculty Teaching & Learning Committee, and the University Disciplinary Committee. His research interests are in the field of nonlinear dynamics, power electronics and the smart grid.

Dr Tanya Dean

Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for the B.A. (Hons) in Drama (Performance) in the TUD Conservatoire Dr Tanya Dean is a Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for the B.A. (Hons) in Drama (Performance) in the Technological University Dublin Conservatoire. She completed her Doctor of Fine Arts with Yale School of Drama in 2016, where she also received her Master of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism in 2011. Tanya has worked extensively as a freelance dramaturg on numerous scripts, workshops and productions in Ireland, the UK, the USA, and Iceland. Tanya is a board member for Rough Magic Theatre Company and is also Associate Dramaturg of Then This Theatre Company in Dublin. From 2015-2017, Tanya served as a committee member for #WakingTheFeminists, and was a Research Associate on the report, Gender Counts: An Analysis Of Gender In Irish Theatre 2006-15. From 2020 to 2021, Tanya served as one of the judges for the national Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards. She is currently the Script Associate for the Abbey Theatre (Ireland’s national theatre) and is currently working as production dramaturg on Ironbound by Pulitzer-Prize-winning playwright Martyna Majok, directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks, performing at the Peacock Theatre from 3 October - 4 November 2023 as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival.
